So, we’ve kicked off February’s workshop with a session on making your own bioplastics at Pinch Studio. I believe we all had fun working on our prototypes, mould making using aluminium foil and simple pantry ingredients (i.e. agar-agar). Everyone came up with ingenious prototypes – can’t wait to see what comes up for the upcoming workshop – on starches in March!

Netflix and Cider https://ediblemakerspace.com/netflix-and-cider/ Wed, 04 Mar 2020 12:23:54 +0000 https://ediblemakerspace.com/?p=714 We ran our February workshop over the weekend, introducing cider – making, fermentation science and the *importance* of diverse yeast cultures. *Burp*

Here’s some snippets from the workshop. DIY apple juicing, sugars, yeasts, and an airlock for anaerobic fermentation – the ciders are bubbling and happy. We concluded the workshop with a round of tasting and toasting glasses all around. We’ll be touching on the topic of bioplastics for our upcoming workshop, do keep a look out for it!

It’s sour though/dough https://ediblemakerspace.com/its-sour-though-dough/ Thu, 06 Feb 2020 08:34:43 +0000 https://ediblemakerspace.com/?p=555 The hackerspace SG was full of the smell of what people from 6000 years ago would describe as that wonderful “new cave smell”. In spite of the technology of the current day being in full bloom, the baking of bread promptly and effectively disrupted this otherwise natural wild fermentation of geek culture (literally).
A diverse group of people arrived with wonderfully creative ideas, and a general culturally curious disposition. Bread was baked. It was eaten, with scepticism at first, followed promptly by hunger and deliciousness. Oh and we made starter, creatively named and taken home to ferment.

The wonder-bread folks fed their starters, experimented with the baking of bread, and discussed via secure instant messaging. For starters.

Starting with Starter https://ediblemakerspace.com/starting-with-starter/ Wed, 15 Jan 2020 14:08:17 +0000 https://ediblemakerspace.com/?p=296 We’ve created a Facebook page and that means we officially exist, this is getting real. While the difficult search for a shared space in Singapore continues, thank goodness for the HackerspaceSG. We’re starting our series of workshops with sourdough starter. Come join us as we learn to make starter culture in a space that’s kind of about starter-culture.

https://www.facebook.com/events/624901258051143/

We’ll try and do a bit of baking, make new starter and share active culture. If the bread rises and bakes as we hope, we need constructive feed-back.

This one will feature home-grown starters “Jeff” and “Mr Stevens”, along with a German friend.
